Average German front-month and year-ahead baseload electricity prices strengthened in April compared with the previous month. Gains for year-ahead contracts reflected higher prices for EU carbon allowances, while front-month prices were also influenced by weather patterns.

German power prices were higher in April on an annual basis. The front-month clean spark spread – the indicative profit from generating baseload power after subtracting the cost of carbon and gas – averaged around €3.90/MWh in April, according to PFT calculations.
